Well... July has arrived, but someone forgot to tell the weather. We're hoping Mother Nature has finally gotten all the rain out of her system, because our residents are ready for sunshine, fresh air, and lots more time to enjoy the outdoors.
Home Improvement Update
We're excited to share another improvement to Meadow Edge!
Beginning Friday, July 3, we'll be starting repairs to our back deck. These improvements will create a safer and more comfortable outdoor space for everyone to enjoy while also improving the back entrance to the home.
As part of this project, we'll be repairing and improving our back deck to create a safer and more comfortable outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.
At the same time, we'll also be constructing a new accessible ramp at the front entrance of the home. Once completed, the front entrance will become our primary entrance for residents, families, and visitors.
We'll keep you informed as the project progresses.
Our contractors are experienced professionals who will keep the work area as clean and safe as possible throughout the project.
A few things to note:
Please use caution around the construction area.
Our staff have been informed and will be assisting residents as needed.
Feel free to park on the street in front if it's easier than walking around from the parking lot while construction is underway.
Thank you for your patience as we continue making improvements to Meadow Edge. We can't wait to enjoy the finished space with everyone.
Welcome, Nelda!
A warm Meadow Edge welcome to Nelda, who is joining us for a respite stay while she spends time visiting family here in the valley.
Although she's only been with us for a short time, she has already become such a lovely part of our home. We've truly enjoyed getting to know her, and we have a feeling it will be hard to say goodbye when her stay comes to an end.
Happy 88th Birthday, Rose!
This Saturday we're celebrating Rose's 88th birthday!
They say eight is a lucky number, so we're hoping 88 brings double the luck. Wishing you a day filled with love, laughter, wonderful company, and maybe an extra piece of birthday cake.
Congratulations, Charan!
We're incredibly proud to celebrate one of our wonderful Personal Care Workers, Charan, who recently became a Permanent Resident of Canada!
This is a tremendous milestone and one that reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work. Charan, thank you for the kindness, compassion, and positivity you bring to Meadow Edge every day. Our residents and our team are fortunate to have you, and we're grateful you're part of the Meadow Edge family.
July Activities
Our July Activity Calendar is now live on our website!
We've planned another month full of games, music, entertainment, crafts, and plenty of opportunities for laughter and connection.
The Meadow Edge Minute
Staying Hydrated This Summer
Summer is a wonderful time for family visits, scenic drives through the valley, and maybe even an ice cream stop. If you're planning to take your loved one out this month, here are a few simple ways to help keep them feeling their best.
As we age, our sense of thirst naturally decreases. Many older adults don't realize they're becoming dehydrated until they're already feeling the effects. Even mild dehydration can contribute to fatigue, dizziness, headaches, constipation, confusion, and an increased risk of falls.
If you're heading out together, here are a few helpful reminders:
Offer a glass of water before heading out and again when you return.
If water isn't their favourite, alternate it with a coffee, tea, or another preferred beverage.
Choose hydrating snacks like watermelon, grapes, oranges, or strawberries.
On warmer days, take breaks in the shade or somewhere cool.
Here at Meadow Edge, keeping our residents hydrated is something we pay close attention to every day. Our team does a wonderful job of gently encouraging fluid intake by offering water, juice, milk, tea, coffee, and other favourite beverages throughout the day. Sometimes water isn't everyone's first choice, but a little encouragement, and maybe the promise of a cup of coffee afterward, often does the trick.
Staying well hydrated helps our residents feel stronger, think more clearly, and continue enjoying the activities they love. It's one of the many little things that remains a big priority for our team.
This Month's Takeaway
Small sips, big difference. Staying hydrated supports energy, balance, memory, digestion, and overall well-being, especially during our Saskatchewan summers.
Kindness is Contagious
A final thought for you all, and something that has been on my heart lately.
In a world that seems to move a little faster every day, I've found myself appreciating the power of simple acts of kindness. They don't have to be grand gestures. More often than not, it's the little things that leave the biggest impact.
Maybe you've been meaning to call someone. Send that handwritten card. Hold the door open for a stranger. Smile at the cashier. Check in on a neighbour. Tell someone you're thinking of them.
These small moments may seem ordinary to us, but they can mean the world to someone else.
Working in a home like Meadow Edge reminds us every day that kindness has a way of coming full circle. It costs so little, yet it can brighten a day, lift a spirit, and remind someone they're not alone.
Wherever this month takes you, I hope you find opportunities to share a little kindness and perhaps receive some in return.
Until next month, enjoy the sunshine, make time for the people you love, and take good care.
